When I met Anthony Horowitz a few years ago, he said that David Eliot was the character most like himself, and that David's bad report cards from school were based on bad report cards that Anthony himself had received as a boy. When you read the second book, Unholy Grail, you will very much suspect that JK Rowling read these books too.

I never bonded with the main character, and felt like he was just a puppet of the author, not a real person. A lot of critics (and Horowitz himself) have since noted certain similarities between the Groosham Grange novel and the newer Harry Potter series written by J. Misterious activies are happening at the school, as David realizes the colleagues go missing in the middle of the night but appear in their beds in the morning again.

The school only enrolls the seventh son of a seventh son, or the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, because they can perform magic. It uses simple and informative language which engages the reader and sets the finish of each chapter with the suspense of wanting to continue.

Aimed at a similar audience of that of Horowitz's The Diamond Brothers series, it was partially based on the years Horowitz himself spent at his boarding school and his own unhappy childhood. So here’s that mealtime torture taken one step further), but I still love the mischievous dark humour that lampoons ‘normal’ family life and (in what now seems like prescience) bankers.

I thought this book was very captivating and intriguing as it was focused around David Eliot's disappointing schooling experiences that led him to a paranormal world. David no sólo crece y descubre su poder, también se le presenta una opción: el tiene la libertad de escoger entre ser bueno o ser malo. En esta historia, un chico de 12 años de nombre David Eliot, es expulsado de la estricta escuela en la que estudia. The mystery deepens one night when David awakens to see them all trooping off into the library, where they vanish.

However, when I did finish, I scoured the library to see if they had the next one in the series (with no luck! Groosham Grange follows three misfits, David, Jill, and Jeffrey as they arrive at their new boarding school on Skrull Island where they are forced to sign a book in their own blood; the teachers seem to be werewolves, vampires, and witches; and all the other pupils are oddly well behaved, wear the same mysterious ring, and disappear at night. This began with two Sherlock Holmes continuation novels, The House of Silk and Moriarty, followed by my entry into the world of James Bond with Trigger Mortis. Teniendo lo anterior en cuenta puedo decir que sentía miedo de leer ahora La granja Groosham y ya no encontrar aquel mundo tan fascinante como antes.Sent to Groosham Grange as a last resort by his parents, David Eliot quickly discovers that his new school is a very weird place indeed.
