For example, the phrase: "everyone liked him" was used in reference to several different characters, through a few decades and time leaps. It's probably relevant to acknowledge that I don't read many dystopian novels or books set in a post apocalyptic world. They have been locked up throughout their life for the safety of the scientists, staff and the entire McMurdo City.

After graduating from Cambridge University in 2001, he completed his studies in Italy, studying creative writing for a year.

The survivors of the human genocide have created a new society on Antarctica and, in the process, have begun and continued to go down a dangerous path of genetic experimentation to create a new ice-adapted human that will ensure the survival of the human race. We learn about Kate’s possibly stalling career and Leo’s plan to apply to acting schools against his mother’s wishes.

I really enjoyed the themes of family and love, how the barren landscape was depicted and the absolute fear that leapt from the first third or so of the book. An armada of alien spacecraft has invaded Earth and given humankind exactly 30 days to move to Antarctica. I didn't find this as fulfilling as his previous writings, I think because of the genre more than anything, but the story itself was good.

When the aliens arrive, Liza and Atto are forced to quickly take steps to save their own lives and those of their families. Discuss other world-altering discoveries, the degree to which they were shared with the world, and their consequences. So why pick this one, which tells of the invasion of Earth by aliens so powerful that they are able to force humans to scurry away from their homes to the only space they’re allowed to occupy – Antarctica, the most inhospitable place on the planet! We jump 20 years and SOMEHOW they've managed to create human-animal hybrids that can withstand the cold. There was just enough to keep me reading to the end, purely to find out what will happen, but there isn't really a satisfying conclusion.

The answer, according to Yotam, the scientist who has “raised” the creature from birth, will depend on its capacity to love. While people try to build a life they are starting to worry about what will happen to the human race in the future.

The story looks at the different communities that are set up on Antarctica and how they experiment with genetic engineering to try and create humans that can comfortably exist in the freezing conditions on Antarctica. How do they and the thousands of other refugees manage to live in this chilly, desolate new world and form communities? The narrator, soon established as Elliot Chase, then zooms out to address the reader directly, introducing the players—most importantly movie star Lana Farrar. Although each chapter was headed with the place and time period, I would have preferred a more linear timeline. I thought there was some amazing moments and some important parallels to current times, but in the end, I felt like this book was fine.
