As Wing Commander Gibson explained to the men of 617 squadron: “When the other boys ask you what you’re doing, just tell them to mind their own business, because of all things in this game, security is the greatest factor. He regularly appears on television and radio and has written and presented the BAFTA-shortlisted BBC documentaries, Battle of Britain and Dam Busters. It was a good thing when Crecy released this complete edition - as originally published censors cut out material that was still thought militarily sensitive and some of Gibson's opinions.

Enemy Coast Ahead is also the inside story of life in Bomber Command throughout the first five years of WW2, culminating in breath-holding drama as the RAF planned, practiced and strove towards breaching the dams on that famous night in May 1943.

Bar ( August 12th, 1918 - September 19th, 1944 ) was born in Simla ( former British India, Shimla, present - day Himachal Pradesh, India ). This book was SO much better than I expected it to be, but I'm not going to rate it - to be honest, I don't think that books like this should be rated.

Near the end of the book there is a brilliant narrative that shows just how far the RAF had come in night bombing.Borden from Gerard d'Erlanger, founder of BOAC, on British European Airways paper, dated 17th December 1946, with handwritten Christmas greeting below signature of Baron d'Erlanger. In the campaign game you will need to survey the defenses of the dams and the routes to them, but too much recon and you risk tipping off the enemy. The 1954 film, The Dam Busters, was based on both Gibson's Enemy Coast Ahead and on Paul Brickhill's The Dam Busters.

Given the constraints of censorship this is in some ways a flawed book, but because it was written during the war it has an immediacy and an unrivalled view into the mood and attitudes of the time. Squadron leader GEORGE “JOHNNY” JOHNSON DFM – Bomb-Aimer on Lancaster AJ-T, scored a direct hit on the Sorpe. This book maps out the brief service record of this very brave man, from his operations at the beginning of the second world war, to his most recognised raid on the Dams of wartime Germany. This is a fascinating book, written at the height of the war just after the famous Dams raid and just before Gibson’s untimely death. This is the memoir of Wing Commander Guy Gibson, who led the Dambusters raid in May 1943, written in 1944, but published only after the war ended. He had by this time completed two full tours, each of 30 operations, with Bomber Command (with 83 and 106 Squadrons), another one as a night-fighter pilot with 29 Squadron and, as leader of the famous Dam Busters raid against the dams of the Ruhr Valley ( Operation Chastise) with 617 Squadron in May 1943. It clearly reflects the language and the style of the times it was written and the reader has to keep that in mind.

Guy Gibson will always be remembered for leading the daring raid on the German Ruhr dams with a unique special bomb, but his illustrated memoirs cover so much more and provide a very important view into the life of pilots and commanders of RAF Bomber Command. They all attended an investiture at Buckingham Palace ( June 22nd ), performed by the Queen Elizabeth ( the futur Queen Mother, 1900 - 2002 ).The 1954 film, The Dam Busters, was based on both Gibson’s Enemy Coast Ahead and on Paul Brickhill's The Dam Busters.
