The bed did well to stand up to the kids jumping on it, however, and I found the large built-in pillow very comfortable. The bed’s ‘fiber-tech’ construction is designed to be firm and durable and a small built-in pillow adds neck support at one end – although I felt it could be a little deeper. Honestly don’t waste your money, look for something that will actually keep you comfortable, not this one that will leave you with back pains and sore body parts. I may not have my priorities right, but the first thing I wanted to do when inflating the Intex was to give it a stroke. The cost of Hi-Gear Double Airbeds We test the most popular air beds with built-in pumps from brands such as Argos, Hi Gear, Dreamcatcher, Outwell, Vango, Yawn and more.

Most air beds will come with specific instructions on how to deflate your air bed, so read the manual carefully. The sleeping bag is only really warm enough for summer or indoor sleeps but you can add extra duvets on top or add a sleeping bag inside the duvet on chillier nights, and the ReadyBed’s fabric cover is removable and washable. Noise: We rate each bed on how noisy it is with a tester turning and shifting their body weight on it.

We found that the raised air beds in our test didn’t have any specific thermal insulating properties. Its easy-to-use foot pump means it takes just a few minutes to put up, and it stays inflated thanks to the strong and durable PVC material with welded seams. Overall, I think this is an excellent option for camping since it raises you off the ground and adds a little luxury to your tent. With two drawstring pulls on either side, the bag that this air bed comes with is possibly the most practical of all the storage bags in this test. Outwell’s excellent king is super roomy, and any tall or plus-size sleepers who find double mats a bit restrictive will love stretching out.

A five-minute pump left the bed feeling too firm for my liking, so I used the dial to relieve the pressure a little and give the bed a bit of bounce. I chose a range of double, king and queen air beds from the likes of Argos, Decathlon, Dreams and Active Era that have built-in pumps and can be manually pumped up too. Links on our site are monetised, it means we can keep our platform free to use, without compromising on impartiality. The Touchxel seemed a little noisier than the average air bed I tested, but this may be down to the fact that at the time of inflation it was late and I was tired. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Then within 3 hours there was barely any air left in it, we could feel the floor beneath us, this happened two nights running. The soft fabric cover of this mattress is a cut above most plastic-y air mats and feels more like a real bed than most. The built-in pump can be used for up to five minutes at a time to inflate and deflate, and I found that the bed was nicely blown up with a bit of squish at around the 4. To find out if the large beds could withstand a bit of rough treatment, I asked my two young kids to jump on each for two minutes - much to their delight, but against the advice of the manufacturers.

There is some crossover: respected camping brands such as Vango, Bestway, Hi Gear and Intex also offer blow-up beds for home use that have the height of a standard bed and are roomy enough for two.

At 38cm high, it’s noticeably lower than the other air beds I tested, but it has above-average leg room and a good deal of bounce. It was used for a 3 night camping trip and stayed completely inflated for the whole time, despite my 10 and 12yr old boys bouncing on it!
