Three singles were released from the album: ‘Hard to Explain’/’New York City Cops’, ‘Last Nite’, and ‘Someday’. First and foremost, let's talk about the packaging and presentation of this limited edition release.

Per an interview in 2001/2002 with Julian Casablancas (I read it back then and wish I could find it now), about 5,000 copies were pressed before 9/11 with the song "New York City Cops. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering The Strokes for the first time, this vinyl edition is a true testament to the band's talent and a reminder of why this album remains a classic in the rock genre. They didn't press more US vinyl copies for several years (there were just the original ~5,000 floating around), but when they did start re-pressing vinyl copies years later, they kept "New York City Cops" and used the same catalog number/bar code as the 2001 vinyl version.United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, India, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Israel, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Vietnam. Among the many highlights are Last Nite with its insistent motown backbeat and choppy johnny thunders-like guitar solo, Barely Legal, sounding like 1980s-era Cure fronted by a saucy Iggy Pop, and the jangly Someday with its hairshirt of vulnerability from a bad break-up. One, it is the ONLY pressing that has the same tracklist as the CD version that came out in 2001, which is how I got to know and fell in love with this album. Additionally, the album's original cover photo was replaced by a less sexually explicit artwork for the US market.

While frontman Julian Casablancas (son of elite models founder john) drawls like Lou Reed through a busted intercom, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr do Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd proud as their sinewy chords intertwine to great effect on the angular The Modern Age and equally neurotic Alone, Together. When he saw the results — "I knew it was the perfect shot - simple, straightforward, graphic and just so sexy. I'm surprised at how long it's taken them to do a pressing with both When It Started and New York City Cops but glad to finally own one.is one of the most exciting and energetic debut albums to spring from New York’s long dormant club scene.
