Description

Our VivoBook Flip 14 has an inferior 720P TN display, but you can get it with a 1080p IPS screen instead, which we expect will perform similarly to the Lenovo's. It's only available with low-power CPUs and GPUs that aren't powerful enough to handle demanding tasks like video editing or 3D graphics. Sometimes that’s usually cutting down on ports, or the display; I’m pleased to say that the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 doesn’t skimp here.

However, your battery will run out much faster if you run CPU-intensive tasks like photo or video editing or 3D rendering. Using the Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Gathering Storm (1080p) benchmark, the Flex 5 reached a measly 16 frames per second. The display is fine for darker homes, but any brightly lit environments—including offices—might reduce its visibility. The narrow bezels of this laptop offer a fantastic field of view, so you will get a more immersive experience. On the other hand, the Acer has a larger screen, its battery lasts longer overall, and it stays completely silent and doesn't get too warm. I kept 25 tabs open in Microsoft Edge, half of them featuring YouTube videos, Twitch streams, and BBC videos, before noticing any lag. Really wish Lenovo had packed in a matte finish display as we’ve seen on multiple laptops or even higher brightness value. Up the tab count and run some image editing in parallel, however, and you can run out of memory and into relative trouble.

inch 1080p touch-enabled display, for instance, sports IPS panel technology and is housed in a high-quality metal enclosure with slim side bezels and a shuttered 720p webcam up top. That isn't surprising considering the display covers only 45% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, a far cry from the 68. You'll find your hardware statuses, such as memory and storage availability, system updates, plus security and warranty statuses. As for the security features, the laptop comes with a fingerprint scanner which is fast and reliable. Despite the maximum brightness level being just 250 nits, we found this bright enough for most situations, and we didn’t experience much glare even when working on this machine outdoors. The supplied charger is a barrel type rather than USB-C despite the fact that the Flex 5 has a USB-C port that supports charging (further connectivity includes two USB-A ports, HDMI and a full-size SD card reader). However, the Lenovo is a productivity-focused laptop only available with a U-series processor designed for ultraportables. Performance-wise, the ENVY x360 comes out ahead for the most part because it's available with a newer generation of CPUs. The webcam does come with an extra privacy feature which we love – a built-in shutter can pull down to block the camera and avoid any accidental images being captured. Please note that any battery life figures are provided by the manufacturer and will vary depending on your usage.
