For example, Estonia is currently suffering one of the highest rates of forest loss in Europe due to increased tree farming. This is essential for high quality briquettes as denser logs have longer burn times and retain their shape well.

Willow, for example, likes to grow in wet soils or besides water bodies, therefore the wood from this tree has a high water content and requires longer seasoning. Once the briquettes have broken down in size, add a couple more blocks on if you want to keep the fire lit for longer. However, more recently, log manufacturers have a greater demand for recycled biomass materials, such as organic farm waste, coffee grounds and natural oils.

It’s important to look for high quality briquettes which only contain 100% wood, without any other ingredients. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth. They expand by about 25% as they burn, so place them across the firebox and just use small amounts until you’re confident with their burning characteristics on your particular stove or fire. By taking the best quality hardwood and kiln drying it we produce logs that give off a pleasing aroma when burning.

Made from a blend of wood chips, wood shavings, and other wood materials, these briquettes offer a smart solution to make use of wood by-products that might otherwise be discarded. The main fuel for a day or evening burn and are also great broken up into small pieces and used to light the fire.Made from recycled hardwood, molasses, shells and nuts, Pine Mountain’s logs produce 80% less emissions than traditional wood burning. Similar to logs, it is essential that briquettes are kept dry as they are very vulnerable to any moisture. The simple answer is by using wood with a high density like ash, beech and oak, but with the added bonus of firewood going through the kiln drying process so most of the moisture has been taken out. If you want your fire to last then we’d recommend using ash wood burning logs because they can burn for up to 5 or 6 hours and also don’t produce much smoke. This is all to do with the low moisture content in dense and dry briquettes which minimises any smoke produced.

Choose from natural fuel types, such as coal, charcoal and wood, and browse easy-to-use firelighters and heat logs for long-lasting flames. They are great as both day and night briquettes; they are ideal for use overnight thanks to their longer durable burn. Softwood can produce a very pleasing flame to look at but it will burn very quickly and you will get through a large volume of wood in a very short time.Don’t close them over completely or you’ll smother it but adjusting them throughout the life of the fire will help it burn for longer.

Hence, if you can fell a tree, section it and pretty much roll the logs straight into a pit you have dug right next to it, then all the better. Their higher calorific value and longer burn-time make them a more cost-effective option in the long run. There is a very easy way of fixing this… Roll up some newspaper and light it, holding it up the damper for a while. The best quality briquettes are made from 100% wood, which is free from contaminants like glue or paint. It is likely to be harder to light, so only add oak logs onto an already roaring fire, to keep it burning all evening.

Once your Night Briquettes are burning nicely, set your airflow controls to the lowest setting (but don’t turn off the airflow completely). It’s also worth looking out for a hole in the centre of the briquette which encourages the airflow needed for a consistent burn which keeps your fire aglow. Our heat logs meet and exceed the new Clean Air Quality standards, offering you peace of mind for an eco-conscious choice. NOTE: Briquettes can expand - pay attention to this and don't open the stove door if you notice that briquettes may have expanded.
