A sequel was released in November 2002 and another in November 2003, the latter proclaiming itself to be the last Air Guitar Album in the World. From Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas" to Bing Crosby's entire Christmas repertoire, some holiday classics are too good to pass up. Blur, who appeared on some of the albums in the series, were originally going to title their 2000 compilation Blur: The Best of as Best Blur Album in the World Ever.

Irving Berlin, the author of "White Christmas," was so scandalized by Elvis's 1957 version of the song that he tried to get it banned from radio. In 2003, the year he died, Sony Legacy released this excellent collection of songs cut between 1962 and 1980. The early Beach Boys could turn National Podiatrist Recognition Day into a party, so you know they're gonna knock Christmas out of the park. For a lot of people, it's not Christmas until Ol' Blue Eyes is singing, and that is certainly true when one considers the legacy of Frank Sinatra's first Christmas record.Like volume 1, there was an exclusive on the album: Brian May's cover of " God Save the Queen" recorded on top of Buckingham Palace in 2002. The title track was recorded by Roy Orbison in 1963 and was eventually released on Nelson's first Christmas record more than a decade later. It’s no surprise that a Christmas song – Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”– is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling single ever. The grandparent of all left-field Christmas albums, featuring Ze Records’ post-punk/post-disco roster: it’s variously funky (August Darnell’s fabulous Christmas on Riverside Drive), blackly comic (Cristina’s Things Fall Apart) and unsettling (Suicide’s Hey Lord).

You must take reasonable care to ensure that an item is repackaged so that it arrives back in the same condition it was despatched. Also on the album was another Queen song, " Bohemian Rhapsody", the four-minute edit of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song " Freebird", and many other songs, including a rare appearance from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. When the track first graced the airwaves in 1994, it was an immediate hit, as was the album it's featured on, Merry Christmas. The expanded, two-disc 1984 version is a veritable schmaltz blizzard of vaguely terrifying good cheer. I feel it has been worthwhile to have this song in my repertoire mostly to be one of those people who boast that they knew the original before John Lewis made Gabrielle Aplin’s cover so popular.Dynamite has something in his bottomless gift bag for every girl and boy the world over: On the blazing title track from 1970's Hey America It's Christmas, he implores, "White or black, blue or green/ Even a man I've never seen/Let's get together!

The record might not be exactly perfect, but it's an excellent option for a cozy night indoors around a fire. The track, an ultra-funky saga of a harassed drug dealer’s Christmas Day, is undoubtedly the highlight, but TLC’s All I Want for Christmas and Toni Braxton’s classy take on The Christmas Song run it surprisingly close. It may not be the only Christmas classic that Cole took to the studio, but The Magic of Christmas is the only holiday album that he put together in his lifetime, which makes it all the more special. Now that we’ve reached December, I’ve been enjoying this album for well over a month now and my enthusiasm hasn’t waned. However, neither achieved the seismic success we all associate with Carey and Christmas until 25 years later. Quite sparsely arranged, it allows the Roche sisters’ harmonies to dazzle – the acappella Star of Wonder is magical – while their New York-accented Winter Wonderland is an absolute hoot. Despite the air of hipster snark, it produced a genuine mainstream seasonal classic: the Waitresses’ delightful Christmas Wrapping. Each year, the works of Slade, Bing Crosby, and whichever cover artist John Lewis has succeeded in pushing to the top of the charts, all find themselves lodged in the minds of even the most reluctant Scrooges. Every cut is immediately familiar – like pulling up to your brightly-lit childhood home on Christmas Eve after too much traveling.
