Description

thick carbon steel, with a super durable non-stick coating, Tala Performance will deliver outstanding results time after time. Together, we're striving to make a positive impact on the environment and create a sustainable future. Made in the UK, this 1lb loaf tin offers an exceptional non-stick double layer coating for excellent food release and ease of cleaning. The coating is applied using the best methods and the finest state of the art non-stick spray coating facilities, meaning a continuous and stable coating is used, so each batch is the same. This generously sized loaf tin from Circulon is a lightweight offering with ultra-handy lips at the top and bottom of the cake tin.

The cake came out of the tin easily thanks to the non-stick coating and overall it was pretty consistent in colour. Although this pan doesn’t have the largest lip, we found it easy to remove from the oven once baked. To find out more about how testing appliances and tools is done at olive, head over to our how we test page. If you only have a 1lb loaf tin, we recommend either halving the quantities in the recipe or making all the mixture and baking two 1lb cakes one after the other. The cake got its name because traditional pound cake used a pound of each ingredient (flour, sugar, butter, eggs). We would suggest approximately 50 minutes for the 1lb loaf rather than the full hour for the 2lb loaf - perhaps check by sight and smell after 40 minutes to be sure.

Dimensions may vary slightly but should be approximately 23 x 13 x 7 cm (9 x 5 1/2 x 3 inches) - see links below for some examples. Or, as the name suggests, use them for your loaves of bread, like sweet potato, chestnut and apricot loaf or seeded rye bread. Please beware the difference between internal and external measurements, since a protruding lip will affect measurements - try to ignore this when measuring. However, my 500g flour mix, with 285g of water, 150g of 100% starter and 8g salt, sort-of worked in this tin but upping the percentages to achieve 550g of flour as you have done would probably fill the tin better. Similarly, if you cook cake mixture in a densely filled cake tin, it takes longer to cook than if you cook it in a wider and longer tin - then, the mixture is less deep, less dense and cooks more quickly. There are a few care instructions that we'd like to make you aware of, to ensure your bakeware remains in the best possible condition.

If your chosen tin is longer and/or wider than the tin size suggested by the recipe (eg a square or round cake tin), then your mixture will be less deep, so you would expect it to cook more quickly.

As seen in the picture above, a cup of water and a cup of sugar and a cup of oil weigh different amounts because they have different densities.

If you have increased the density of the cake mixture in the tin, possibly by using a smaller but deeper tin, you may find that the cake isn’t cooking evenly.A 900gm loaf of bread will start off with about 1200gms of dough (because the water tends to evaporate during proving and cooking).
